More IITs involved by Government for Aakash 2 Deal

Government of India announced the decision of involving IIT Mumbai, IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur apart from IIT- Rajasthan which is currently been caught in issues with the maker of Aakash tablet, Datawind over specifications.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by HRD Minister, Kapil Sibal along with officials present from Department of IT so that the Aakash tablet 2 deal could go smoothly and this could also result in making Aakash tablet indigenous. Currently, some of the parts for Aakash tablet are being imported from outside India including the processor. If whole parts are available in the country itself, this could result in further reduction in the price of the tablet. The speed of the processor is expected to touch 800 Mhz from the present 300 Mhz.

IIT- Rajasthan is on the verge of loosing the Aakash 2 deal as it was previously decided by the Government. The reports suggest that due to the differences regarding specifications between Datawind and IIT- Rajasthan, the deal is a no go for Government for the Aakash tablet 2 with IIT- Rajasthan.

The Government had earlier stated that it will require 22 crore units of Aakash tablet for which new tenders will be floated so that more companies could get a chance to bid along with Datawind.
